Mehrnoosh Aryanpour

Mehrnoosh Aryanpour is of counsel in the Washington, DC office of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher.  She is an Iranian and US educated lawyer and a member of the New York bar.  Ms. Aryanpour is an experienced international lawyer with a focus on international trade compliance and anti-money laundering ("AML") laws and regulations, including the Bank Secrecy Act, as amended by the USA PATRIOT Act ("BSA"), the economic sanctions programs administered and enforced by the U.S. Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) and also advises clients on Tax Compliance Act (FATCA).  She assists financial institution holding companies, domestic and multinational banks, investment companies, other financial services businesses, and multinational corporations in developing, enhancing and implementing risk-based AML compliance programs, customer due diligence, and procedures for identifying and reporting suspicious activity and with developing FATCA policies and procedures. 

Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Aryanpour was a senior counsel in an international law firm based in New York. She also lived and practiced law in Kabul, Afghanistan where she advised clients on a wide range of areas and on numerous legal matters related to conducting business in Afghanistan, including the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), embargoes, export controls, foreign business registration, intellectual property, corporate restructuring and mining regulations.

Ms. Aryanpour was also a member of the International Monetary Fund's (IMF) Financial Integrity Group, concentrating in AML/Counter-financing of terrorism (CFT). Focusing on Financial Action Task Force (FATF) 40+9 compliance, Ms. Aryanpour helped plan, carry out and analyze a sensitive on-site inspection of a member state's financial and banking system. 

She ranked number one out of almost 500,000 participants in Iran's National University Entrance Examination and was consequently appointed as the national student of the year in 1999. She graduated with honors from Tehran, University Law School and finished her LLM studies at Georgetown University Law Center.   

Ms. Aryanpour is fluent in English and Farsi and she is a member of the New York State Bar.
